RESCUE 10

2015 Trek Series Bikes

RUEMS’ secondary mode of response to calls are two sets of bikes capable of providing quick and rapid emergency care during events that have high foot traffic including Freshmen Move in Day, Highlander Festival, running events, and Spring Commencement.

These bikes are only operated by members of our Bike Team who are required to attend and participate in a bike class that consists of a classroom and practical portion which is physically demanding.

One bike is fully stocked with basic first aid and trauma gear ranging from gauze, bandages, pulse oximetry, and other supplies to handle critically ill or injured patients. Our second bike is equipped with an AED, oxygen, and supplies for oxygen administration or to handle a cardiac arrest event. These bikes were funded on a grant provided by the Rescue Squad Assistance Fund (RSAF) courtesy of the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Office of EMS. If requested, the bikes are available for any outdoor standby event.
